Dress Up Day October 26th 2018

On Friday, October 26th 2018, the children were invited to dress up for our annual “Dress Up Day” which we always have the day of the Autumn Mid-Term Break. The children are encouraged to make/design their own costumes or purchase bits and pieces from local charity shops eg “Never Too Old” in Claregalway. “ Never TOO Old” Supports the local Claregalway District and Daycare Centre. This years “ Dress Up Day” was a huge success. We had a bunch of grapes, a shark, rock stars, pirates, Harry Potters, builders, giant tomatoes, a Pink Panther, Ninja’s to name a few.

The whole school went over to Damien’s room where there was a make-shift catwalk ready for the children to show off their costumes class by class and we also had a great sing-song. Thank you to everyone for participating so enthusiastically!

Cumann na mBunscol Mini-Sevens

Well done to the CETNS Hurling Squad who played in the Cumann na mBunscol Mini-Sevens on Friday 28th at Carnmore. We had our best ever day out winning 2/3 of our matches. We beat St. Pats, Tuam and Gardenfield. We lost our match against Carnmore and Carnmore went on to win out the group by beating Bawnmore in the final. We are immensely proud of the hurling squad pictured here. We had a great day out. The boys were delighted to win the two matches and we wish Carnmore all the best at the next stage. Thank you to all the parents who transported the children to and from Carnmore and stayed to support the team. Thank you also to the teachers at the school who covered classes so that the coaches could go along also. Finally, thank you to the boys. They played their hearts out and showed great sportsmanship and determination on the day.

Exciting news.

An Bord Pleanala have adjudicated in favour of our new build. Plans have been drawn up and tenders sent out by the Department of Education. This step forward is a great boost and the school Board of Management are to be thanked for all their quiet work behind the scenes. And indeed the different members of the Board over the years since we opened in 2005. There have been many hitches on the way but we have managed to grow and become very popular in spite of space constraints. We have entered Peace Proms, Cumann na mBunscoil, Rugby Blitzs, Volleyball All Irelands annually and have staged memorable Stage Productions and Graduations over the years. We have been 13 years in our temporary site, have grown by 600% in this time and continue to expand every year. Our school is progressive and vibrant with an excellent staff who go above and beyond. Our vision has never changed- For each child to feel valued and encouraged to reach their potential in an inclusive environment. Our biggest challenge has been having to turn away students due to lack of space to expand. This new purpose built school will allow us to provide an even better service much deserved by the children, parents and staff. Our own library and all purpose room for P.E. the joy of having proper sized rooms. We are mindful of the concerns of local residents and will endeavour to be the best neighbours they could wish for. We have excellent relations with our present neighbours and work together on numerous projects every year. We have fantastic relations with the local schools and work with them regularly. A school is not the bricks and mortar it is the people who work and play in it every day. Now to bring this wonderful school of ours to a dedicated state of the art premises. Well done to all in our lovely school community who have waited so long for this moment. Thank you for your patience and support.

Sports Day from 1st & 2nd

We had an excellent Sports Day last Friday. A big thank you to Leighton for all his help over the past few weeks as he worked with Junior Infants, Senior Infants , 1st & 2nd classes.  A big thank you to all the moms and dads who gave up their time to make the day the huge success it was. Finally a big thanks to Niamh for organising all of it in the background.

Green Flag Celebration Day

On Friday the 15th June, we raised our 6th Green Flag since we opened our school in 2005. This year's theme was " Litter and Waster- Global Citizenship" . A huge thank you to everybody who helped to make our Green Flag Celebration Day so wonderful.

To Ken from " Green Earth Organics"  for making a lovely speech and raising the flag. All the parents and children who made organic fruit smoothies and healthy treats, did face painting and helped with the clean up. To all the children who dressed up and wrote poems about Nature. To all the children who decorated the playground and windows with "Green Themed" Art. Thank you to Leighton for lending us his sound system for the day and Damien for putting together some great "tunes" for the outdoor disco. Thank you to all the children (and teachers!) who danced their socks off for the celebration and Niamh for supplying the bubbles! It was a lovely afternoon thanks to the enthusiasm and support from so many people. Well done to you all and thank you all very much.

From,

The Green School Committee

Farm Safety May 18th 2018

Thank you to Alma Jordan from Zurich Agri Kids who gave an excellent workshop to the children from Junior Infants to 6th class on "Farm Safety". See http://www.agrikids.ie/ for more details. She is very passionate about the topic and visited us free of charge. The children really enjoyed her as she was enthusiastic, interesting and informative. We hope that they will pass on the safety tips to others when they visit farms during the Summer holidays.
